Who am I? What is Write Right? Two very good questions, and I'll attempt to answer them to the best of my ability.
I'll begin with the second question. Write Right is my company. It began as factotum llc., hence the factotum remnants. I hope to be rid of them soon so that my brand is more consistent. Write Right is a writing consulting and coaching service. I mainly help businesses and business owners to communicate better and to embrace creativity. I deplore the divide that sometimes occurs between professional writing and creative writing, so I'm trying to reintroduce the two to each other.
That thought leads into the other question, "Who am I?" I have worked as a professional writer, an editor, a marketing specialist, a communications specialist, and a web content manager. Those are a few of my official titles; much of my communications work has happened without them. I've also worked with a variety of companies such as a fine arts, non-profit art gallery; a health education resource center; and a legal aid office. I've worked in other industries and am more than happy to provide that information if needed. Let's just say that I've written for or worked with a wide range of businesses and understand the importance of developing a voice and disseminating it.
I also am a creative writer. I have my Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing with an emphasis in poetry. When I'm not authoring posts for my blog or writing guest posts for other people, I often am writing poetry. That interest can be followed at Tumblr; I don't post my poetry on this site. The Tumblr account isn't solely dedicated to my poetry. It also includes quotes from authors I'm reading or from people I'm following as well as art or anything else related to creativity and the creative life. The goal of my Tumblr blog is to continue wedding the creative and the professional. As I stated earlier, I dislike the divide between the two.
My Bachelor of Arts degree is in English and graphic design. I use that background - just as I use my work and creative writing backgrounds - on a daily basis. For instance, the drawings I post on the Write Right Facebook page are my own. Some of my other drawings will be featured in future resource materials. I use art and images because I think they are equally as potent as a well-crafted sentence or paragraph. When art and writing work together, the effect is sublime, just as it is when corporate writing and creative writing meet and inform each other.
